ESSENTIALS OF EARLY CHILDHOOD

Our early childhood teacher development workshop focuses on the earliest years in a child’s life from birth to age seven.An immersion in the world of the nursery / kindergarten with instructor Valerie Thomas from Meadowsweet kindergarten, USA being held at Kathmandu Waldorf Kindergarten, Sanepa.

Open to everyone, including current and prospective early childhood educators, parents and caregivers.
Join us for a wondrous journey! In this comprehensive course, you’ll explore the essential elements of early childhood education. Through the guidance of a highly experienced Waldorf early childhood educator, you’ll delve into child development; learn about rhythms, transitions, and the cycle of the year; explore the importance of play; examine the inner development of the teacher; experience circle time activities and lessons in handwork, art, and movement; go through an early childhood student’s morning routine; and develop a true practical understanding of a good early child-hood education.

INSTRUCTORS

Valerie Thomas

Valerie is the lead kindergarten teacher at Meadowsweet kindergarten, an integrated kindergarten at Camphill Special School.Valerie Thomas, a native of Scotland attended Dundee College of Education. She then came to the US to participate in the Curative Education Academy offered at Camphill Special School.

Since receiving her diploma from Beaver Run, she has been involved for the past 27 years with Waldorf Early Childhood programs. For 20 years she was a faculty member of Kimberton Waldorf School in Pennsylvania. She has completed the WECAN training and numerous courses and workshops on Early Childhood here on the East coast and also at the Micha-el Institute in Portland, Oregon.
She has been involved with mentoring teachers in the US and overseas.

Sarita

Sarita was born and raised in Kathmandu, Nepal. She started her journey with Waldorf education in 1997 when she moved to Hyderabad, India, and became a Waldorf parent. She attended Waldorf teacher training courses and conferences in many countries over the years (India, New Zealand, Thailand, Philippines, Korea, Japan, Switzerland, USA, etc.) and became a kindergarten teacher. She has over 10 years’ experience as a kindergarten and class teacher. Currently she is conducting parenting workshops and early childhood introductory courses in different parts of Nepal. She completed her Early Childhood Diploma in Waldorf Education from Sunbridge Institute in New York and is one of the founding members of Kathmandu Waldorf Kindergarten. Sarita is presently coaching and mentoring the teachers in Nepal.
